What Independence?! by IAmTheUnison What Independence?! by IAmTheUnison
Like most holidays, I look upon celebrations on this day as a sick ironic joke. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that this country ain't the "Land of the Free" that it used to be. In fact, it's gone from the "Land of the Free and the Brave" to the "Land of the Sheepish, the Lazy, the Ignorant, and the Complacent"!

With the scheming politicians in Washington constantly thinking up new ways to bypass the Constitution and chip away more and more of our rights with corrupt legislation to appease their masters in Corporate America and the Banking Cartel, I see little reason for celebration. Our government has become infested with sociopaths and a majority of dickheads in this country have their heads too far up their asses to even care. There is no independence to celebrate here, for we are all pawns of the corporations and enslaved to the bank. Until the Federal Reserve Bank has been disbanded, the power of the corporations tremendously sheered, and strict term limits imposed on all elected officials to reduce the effects of cronyism the only thing I'll be raising every July 4th is my middle finger! There maybe no independence to celebrate, but I can certainly celebrate the spirit of defiance and civil disobedience!

I rather wonder how much freedom was achieved in the intial Revolution. At first only land-owning white males could vote afterall.

Unfortunately, at the time, most people had evolved past the medieval notions of the Old World, but the first American Revolution was at least a step in the right direction.

Sure, I can agree with the "awesome for its time" sentiment. One can drive himself crazy trying to look at any area of history from a 21st century perspective.

Hard to celebrate when the country is under siege by the government.

That's the number one way to fightback, confuse them by any day other than yesterday being against them. And rejoicing that this nation was once independent even if it isn't anymore.

besides stuff like no fireworks on the Fourth of July and no drinking no bonfires stuff like that only happens in California, for its the only state that won't let them gather in a group a greater than three without a permit. Any other state, the politician that suggests that law will get shot... by the judge.

Well, I've been paying attention... it's looking like Obama's cohorts are jumping ship. Civil unrest is rumbling under the trappings of this web of lies, deceit and hatred Obama has woven.

Meanwhile, the special interest nut-jobs: Feminist, LGBT, religious extremists, Atheists, race-baiters... I'll tell you what brother, I'm more afraid of those idiots sparking a Civil War over their control freak ideals than the government at this point. The government has gotten too big for its britches and is collapsing under its own weight.

I think the politically correct insanity is what's going to cause the first gun discharge honestly.

Be it the government, the corporations, or the control freak nutjobs they will all gain a good hard lesson in what liberty is all about if they try to force their absurd ideals and tyranny upon the people.

Well, I'm seeing it every day. ^^ The walls are crumbling, and the chinks in the armor are emerging. More people are angry at the special-interest movements, specifically LGBT and to a lesser degree feminists, because of how asinine and childish their demands have become. Coupled with the Federal strong arming that the LGBT movement has been using to bully other people into compliance, they are losing traction.

A little brash... but a point that definitely has some weight. Did you know that the first to celebrate the 4th/Independence Day were Moravian Christian pacifists in North Carolina? They spent the day in reflection and prayer. It was more about thanking God for peace than creating a spectacle over our victories. The celebration was actually held in the Salem part of Winston-Salem, pretty close to where I live now. Here's an article on it: www.thedailybeast.com/articles…

Well, that is interesting information I did not know. Nice to know how this holiday started, and further proves a point I've made in past regarding how far all holidays have wandered from their origins and original meanings.

The conservatives are divided and constantly worrying, the progressives don't know what they follow and they eat their own, and you third-partiers are too busy being self-righteous cunts.

Being the land of the free is our rightful place.  The way I see it, there are some very bad people in government and some very bad people in the general citizenry or as lobbyist who stole it from us.  The question is when Americans will turn off MSNBC or Faux or Keeping Up With the Kardashians for long enough to care and do something about it.

The chants are very arrogant, anyway. I personally would say that the
USA have established a system, which contradicts it's own ideology of
freedom and independence. It's noticable, if we look at the way the
government is basically dependent on lobbyists, because of the election
campaigns, which are way too expensive. This basically means that
politics are vulnerable to being manipulated by those, who gave money
into political campaigns, making the USA rather a plutokratie than a
federal republic.
I think a good thing to do would be a reformation to limit the power of
all political organs in an order, which keeps them independent from each
other and makes them control each other without ever closing an
eye. Basically how it was originally meant to be, but this time done right.
The government has to fullfil it's service as representant of the interests
of it's people. The best way to ensure this is to take all the priviliges
away, which could cause an abuse of power.
